Prerequisites Before Connecting a WhatsApp Number to Cloud Chat

Última atualização em Feb 11, 2026

Objective

Ensure that connecting or migrating WhatsApp numbers to Cloud Chat occurs in a safe, correct way, minimizing risks of blocking or losing the number.

Meta's Glossary of Important Terms

  • WhatsApp Business App -> WhatsApp Business application on mobile device

  • WhatsApp Number -> Phone number represented in Meta. It is not necessarily a physical phone number but can be.

  • Business Portfolio / Meta Portfolio -> A Meta space that consolidates all a company's assets — such as WhatsApp numbers, Facebook pages, Instagram accounts, ad accounts, product catalogs, and other resources — for unified management.

  • WABA (WhatsApp Business Account) -> The entity that connects a WhatsApp number to a Business Portfolio.

  • Business Manager -> The "settings tab" within your Business Portfolio.

  • WhatsApp Manager -> Located within Business Manager, alongside Instagram Manager, etc.

  • Solution Provider -> Cloud Humans is a Solution Provider capable of connecting your number to your Meta portfolio and integrating via API for complete management in Cloud Chat.

Risks

The process of connecting or migrating numbers is sensitive. If steps are not properly followed, serious issues may occur, such as:

  • Losing the WhatsApp number

  • Indefinite blocking of the number

  • Difficulty releasing the number if the previous provider still has control

In CloudChat integration, the client is the owner of their WABA.

CloudChat acts only as a Solution Provider connected after authorization via Embedded Signup process.

Our philosophy is that the client should own their contact assets — similar to email, domain, Instagram, and other channels. We do not retain ownership of clients' WABAs nor aim to create technical dependency.

Essential Precautions

Having access to the SIM card or phone to receive SMS or calls does not mean you have administrative control of the Meta account! To connect or migrate a number correctly, it is mandatory that the number be under the client's Meta portfolio with administrative access. More details below.

Connection with Coexistence

If the number connection will be made with coexistence (parallel to the physical WhatsApp Business app), refer to the specific documentation:

Prerequisites to Initiate Integration

1. New Number ✅

1.1 - A number is considered new when it has never been used before in:

  • Any previous WhatsApp Business App

  • Any connection via provider, Solution Partner, or BSP

  • WABA registration in Meta

1.2 - Before starting the connection, ensure you have:

  • A configured Business Portfolio in Meta.

  • Administrative access to the Business Portfolio.

  • Access to the number for receiving verification SMS or calls.

  • The Business Portfolio must have a “Verified” status.

  • Valid payment method:

    • Required only if the number is used for proactive messaging.

    • Not mandatory if only used for reactive support.

Make sure all these items are confirmed before proceeding.

2. Existing Number (Already connected to another provider) ⚠️

If the number has previously been connected to another Solution Provider or WhatsApp Business App, it is necessary to verify ownership of your WABA.

Official Meta documentation with migration prerequisites here. Summary below:

2.1 - Requirements imposed by Meta for migration

Check your Business Manager to confirm:

Navigate to WABA settings:

Then search for your WABA by number or using the search bar:

When you find the WABA, click on Whatsapp Manager:

A new tab will then open in your browser with the list of numbers for the selected WABA.

With both tabs open, verify the following:

  • The connected number should have the status “Connected”.

  • The Business Manager should have a “Verified” status.

  • The WABA should have “Approved” status. Additionally, a valid “Payment Settings” method must be registered.

  • Two-step verification for the number must be disabled before migration. This step, while seemingly minor, is very critical!

    • If you are the owner of the WABA, disable it via WhatsApp Manager:

    • Otherwise, your current provider must deactivate the Two Step Verification.

2.2 - After confirming the above, you only need:

  • Administrative access to your Meta portfolio.

  • Access to the number for receiving SMS or calls.

  • A valid payment method (migration always requires this, unlike new number for reactive use only).

  • Message History feature must also be deactivated before migration (can be reactivated after completion).

3. Validation by CloudChat team

Before starting connection or migration, please send our team confirmation of these steps.

If you have any questions or difficulties at any step, do not hesitate to contact support for guidance. Avoid making adjustments if unsure!
