WhatsApp Messages Not Reaching Cloud Chat? Understand the Coexistence Limitation

Última atualização em Feb 11, 2026

Why do some messages not appear in Cloud Chat when using coexistence?

When the number is integrated with Cloud Chat with coexistence (phone + API at the same time), there is an official limitation from Meta related to unsupported devices.

This limitation can cause messages sent or received in certain apps not to appear in Cloud Chat, even though they are visible on the phone.

📌 Common Scenario Reported by Customers

Typical report:

"Sent messages are not arriving."
"It works on the phone, but does not appear in Cloud Chat."

In most of these cases, the customer is using:

  • WhatsApp Desktop (Windows)

  • WhatsApp on WearOS

These apps are not fully supported by Meta for mirroring via API when the number is in coexistence.

🔎 What is happening technically?

According to Meta's official documentation:

“WhatsApp users who use an unsupported companion client to message an onboarded business can do so, but the message will not trigger smb_message_echoes webhooks, so the business won't be able to mirror the message in their own app.”

Practical translation:

  • The message is sent normally

  • It appears on the main phone

  • But does not trigger webhook

  • And therefore is not reflected in Cloud Chat

🔹 Which apps are not supported?

Examples provided by Meta:

  • WhatsApp Desktop (Windows)

  • WhatsApp on WearOS

❗ Messages exchanged via these channels are not mirrored in Cloud Chat.

🔹 Does WhatsApp Web work?

✅ Yes.
WhatsApp Web (accessed through the browser) is supported, and messages are reflected normally via API.

🛠 How to diagnose this problem?

If the customer reports that the message “did not arrive”:

  1. Ask to verify if the message appears on the phone.

  2. Ask which app is being used (Windows? Web?).

  3. If it works on the phone but not in Cloud Chat, and they are using Windows Desktop → it is a coexistence limitation.

💡 How to work around this limitation?

There are two options:

Option 1 — Customers use only supported apps

  • Use the WhatsApp Business App on the phone

  • Use WhatsApp Web (browser)

  • Avoid using WhatsApp Desktop Windows

Option 2 — Disable coexistence

Switch to the NO coexistence mode, where the number works exclusively via API (Cloud Chat).

In this mode:

  • All messages pass exclusively through the API

  • No more device conflicts

  • The number stops working on the phone app
