Eddie, Controlled Flows, and Tools: what changed

Last updated on Jun 24, 2026

What changed

What we used to call Eddie is now called Controlled Flows. It is exactly the same feature — only the name changed, as part of our platform's evolution. You may still see the old name ("Eddie") in older screens and materials; it refers to the same product.

Eddie, Controlled Flows, and Tools — how are they related?

Term What it is Status
Eddie The old name for Controlled Flows Discontinued (naming only)
Controlled Flows Deterministic flows you design to automate backoffice support Current name
Tools Capabilities used by Agentic ClaudIA, built on the same engine as Controlled Flows In use in Agentic ClaudIA

In other words: Controlled Flows and Tools share the same execution engine. The difference is the usage context — Controlled Flows describe deterministic automations you model; Tools are the actions Agentic ClaudIA can invoke dynamically during a conversation.

What you need to do

  • Nothing changes in how it works. Your flows stay exactly as they were.
  • When you read "Eddie" in older articles, read it as Controlled Flow.
  • For questions about Agentic ClaudIA and Tools, see the Agentic ClaudIA portal articles.
